Much maligned New England Revolution Striker Giacomo Vrioni has found his form. The Albanian Striker has struggled for service and results since joining the Revs in July of 2022. Vrioni now has 10 goals in all comps this season and his goal scoring is single handedly carrying the Revs back to playoff contention.
Vrioni's latest brace helped lead New England to a 2-1 win over Atlanta United. Atlanta has seen their 2 best players depart in Giorgis Giakoumakis and Thiago Almada. Almada is off to Brazil to play for Botafogo before heading to France next year to suit up for Olympique Lyonnais. Giakoumakis went south of the border to run with Cruz Azul.
Back to Vrioni, he produced a brace in 2 out of the last 3 games for New England. His first goal came from an exquisite individual effort which saw him carry the ball past the ATL defense while nutmegging a hapless United center half then beating Brad Guzan near post. Vrioni's 2nd goal came from a beautiful ball in from Noel Buck. Vrioni made a back post run and volleyed home his 2nd.
Buck had an extremely productive game, playing at Right mid/wing, Buck found himself in dangerous positions all game. Henry Kessler and Xavier Arreaga also both had strong games in the back. Aljaz Ivacic made a few crucial stops to preserve the win for the boys in Blue.
New England now travels to Seattle to play the Sounders Saturday night. This will test the squad depth and rigor of the team with the difficult MLS travel requirements. This win vs ATL makes 5 out of 6 and sees the Revs only 2 points out of the playoff places.
