Some things never change, if you don't like the weather in New England wait a minute, and Sete Setembro having a quality team.

The 2nd was on display last night in Lexington, as Sete Setembro defeated Project Football 2-0 in the round of 16 in the Mass State Cup, now named the Werner Fricker Cup.

A 3rd minute goal from former Rev, Providence City Rogue and Vermont Catamount player Justin Freitas set the tone early for Sete. Freitas and Sete pounced on a turnover at the back from Project and Freitas right footed trivela finish found the side netting to open the scoring.

Project Football found their footing after the early mishap too withstand Sete's potent attack and take the game into the half trailing 1-0.

The 2nd half started similar to the 1st half with Sete on the front foot creating many chances, and eventually they found a 2nd. Defender Lucas Almeida formerly of the Revs U19'S, buried his shot after 2 blocked Sete shots doubling up the Sete lead.

The game changed for Project Football in the 60th minute when Graham Tinkham came on. Tinkham was deployed as a center forward, and began linking the play. Tinkham helped Project create several chances in the last 30 minutes. One clear cut chance came when Tinkham beat a defender into the box and was kicked from behind. Unfortunately for Project a penalty was not rewarded. Project tripled their shot total from the first 60 minutes, in the last 30.

A player that stood out for me was former UMass Boston and Revs 2 player Ryan Lima. Lima was 2023 Little East player of the year. Lima was ultra calm and cool on the ball and displayed several eye popping highlights.

Post game I was able to speak with Justin Freitas and asked him about playing with Sete Setembro. The Providence City Rogue mainstay was certainly a surprise to Project Football eyes when he showed up. Freitas explained that he will be with Sete this spring season and is always looking to play when the opportunity presents itself.
