RIFC, Hartford, Portland, and the USMNT all fell this weekend, locally......

Rentschler Field at Pratt and Whitney Stadium once again played host to the USMNT. The red white and blue hosted Turkey (Turkiye) and lost 2-1.

The US started brightly as Jack McGlynn scored a stunner in the 1st minute. McGlynn's left footed curler beat Turkey keeper Berke Ozer sending the packed crowd into a frenzy.

As the rain continued to fall and the conditions worsened Turkey found an equalizer when Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler stuck a leg out and deflected Johnny Cardoso's pass into the back of the net for Turkey's first goal.

Cardoso's misfortunes continued when he was disposessed which led to Kerem Akturcoglu's go ahead goal in the 27th minute.

The US was unable to find a tying goal and the recent poor run of form for Mauricio Pochettino and the USMNT continues heading into the Gold Cup.

In a more local note, RIFC dropped a howler vs Miami FC. Former MLS'ers Bill Hamid and Sebastian Blanco proved to be the difference. Hamid made save after save preserving all 3 points for a much more competitive from last year Miami team.

Sebastian Blanco was the match winner when his free kick deflected off of RIFC keeper Jackson Lee's hands to give Miami the 1-0 lead. RIFC remains winless at CBS@TL. Much maligned striker Albert Dikwa was unable to influence the game as calls for his benching become louder.

Down Route 6 on Friday night Hartford Athletic lost to North Carolina FC. Pedro Dolabella broke the hearts of the Athletic faithful when in the 4th minute of stoppage time he tallied the game winner for NCFC.

Hartford defender Joe Farrell was sent off in the 68th minute and will miss the next 2 matches for Hartford. Hartford has 6 points through 10 matches and one must think that their could be some warmth under Coach Burke's seat.

Last but not least, the Portland Hearts of Pine lost to Chattanooga Red Wolves Saturday night 2-1 in Tennessee. Azaad Liadi bagged early for Portland in the 5th minute, but the response from Chattanooga was swift when in the 28th and 35th minute, Declan Watters and Pedro Hernandez tied and won it for the Red Wolves.

Overall we had a disappointing weekend of results in our region. Hoping next week will go better, as the Revs enter the fray once again, hosting FC Cincy on Saturday.
