RIFC win 2nd of the year

All season long Rhode Island FC have battled the best in the USL Championship to stalemates. Last night was a different story as RIFC dominated perennial power Louisville City 5-2 in Louisville.

The goals came in a variety of ways from a variety of players. Clay Holstad opened the scoring with a USL Championship goal of the week, possibly year contender. Holstad launched a rocket shot that deflected of the post and in giving RIFC the early lead. Kwizera doubled that lead when his 1 v 1 effort beat the Louisville keeper far post putting RIFC 2-0 at the half.

JJ Williams tripled the RIFC lead when he broke in on goal and chipped the Lou City keeper giving the anchors that all important 3 goal cushion. From there on out the teams traded goals. D. Mares brought a goal back for City in the 85th minute. In the 90th minute all hell broke loose. A Noah Fuson goal in the 90+1 minute was sandwiched by a City J. Morris goal in the 90+5 minute. Providence native Isaac Angking sealed the deal in the 90+5 minute of stoppage time. Angking broke through the Lou City defense from the kickoff and slipped the 5th goal past Louisville, emphatically giving RIFC there 2nd win of the season.

RIFC returns to action on Wednesday when they host Locomotive at Bryant University. RIFC sit 3 points off of the playoff places after last night's victory.
