RIFC draw with Oakland Roots

toddtinkham

RIFC got an 87th minute equalizer from Albert Dikwa to draw Oakland Roots 1-1 at Beirne Stadium on the campus of Bryant University Saturday night.

It was another impressive performance from the Anchors who dominated possession, chances created and shots on goal. Oakland broke through first when Neveal Hackshaw headed a corner kick past RIFC keeper Koke Vegas to give the Roots a 1-0 lead.

RIFC had many clear cut chances and free headers throughout the game. Stephen Turnbull had a 1 v 1 with the keeper but was unable to equalize. Jack Doyle found himself unmarked in the box but his header was directly at the Roots keeper.

In the 73rd minute goalscorer Hackshaw was sent off with a DOGSO red card. This allowed RIFC to push even more numbers forward. In the 87th minute Dikwa equalized on a ball in from Joe Brito.

RIFC continued to push for a winner and had good chances but were unable to find the go ahead goal on the evening. Rhode Island fall to 8th in the East, and travel to Loudon next Saturday night.
