Revs vs Nashville SC preview

toddtinkham

Saturday night the New England Revolution host Nashville SC at 7:30 at Gillette Stadium. New England is coming off of a 4-0 defeat to LAFC last Sunday night. Nashville who defeated Montreal 2-0 last week is unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 draw and is sitting near the top in the Eastern Conference. This matchup appeared to be a game in which the last 2 MLS MVP's were set to face off. New England's Carles Gil was 2021 MLS MVP and Nashville's Hany Mukhtar took the honors in 2022. However Carles Gil is a big question mark with a hamstring injury which he sustained late in the LAFC defeat. The question for New England is, who replaces Gil as the team creator. Last week Bruce Arena tried Gustavo Bou in that spot but Bou struggled getting on the ball and creating. Youngsters Esmir Bajraktarevic and Jack Panayotou have a creative spark in their game and can certainly pick out a pass. Bruce Arena seems reluctant to use either of them early on in the regular season. Another problem New England will face is Nashville SC is extremely tough to break down under Gary Smith. They are yet to concede a goal this season. Nashville isn't without question marks going into the match with a host of players on their injury report as well. It should be an interesting one Saturday night in Foxboro. Can the Revs bounce back after a humbling defeat in LA, or will Nashville remain unbeaten to start 2023?
