The latest edition of the Maple Syrup derby takes place on Saturday night between the New England Revolution and CF Montreal. Both teams are at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference table. New England near top and Montreal at the bottom. New England is coming off a 1-1 draw vs NYCFC. Montreal is coming off another loss where they were unable to score a goal. Montreal's only goals scored were in the 3-2 win vs Philadelphia. Perhaps New England would have taken all 3 points vs NYCFC if Dylan Borrero's goal stood. However Gustavo Bou was in an offsides position and obstructed the view of the NYCFC keeper. However MLS PRO referees have admitted that the ruling was incorrect and the goal should have stood. Latif Blessing and Matt Polster have been full training participants so far this week. This will add depth to the available midfielders for New England giving Bruce Arena some decisions to be made for Saturday. For me Noel Buck must continue to start. A midfield of Buck, Gil, Blessing and Polster is how I would line up if Revs play a 4-4-2, which has been the formation of choice so far this season for Arena. For Montreal, Romell Quioto is always a threat up top and should give Revs defenders a good challenge. Gillette Stadium has been rather cavernous so far this season. We will see if a bigger crowd comes out to support the Revs in their quest to go top again in the East. Montreal is simply trying to get their 2023 season back on track. With 1 win and 4 losses, it's nearly a must get result for the Impact to not fall too far behind the rest of the pack. The stage is set...Revs vs Montreal, 7:30 Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.
