Revs vs LAFC preview

toddtinkham

Since the MLS schedule was released December 20, 2022, New England Revolution fans had this particular date Sunday March 12 circled......Why? Because this was the date when The Revs were travelling to LA to play Supporters Shield and MLS Cup champion LAFC. Both teams are unbeaten to start the season with New England posting a 2-0-0 record. LAFC remains unblemished at 1-0-0 and holding a 3-0 lead over Alajuelense in the CONCACAF Champions league with leg 2 coming up in LA. New England has victories over Charlotte and Houston while LAFC beat Portland 3-2 in their season opener. El Traffico was supposed to be the Black and Gold's opener played at the Rose Bowl, however the derby was cancelled due to inclement weather. For New England their attack looked much better against Houston scoring 3 goals. The Revs will be getting a boost, as Designated Player Gustavo Bou is likely to make his season debut. LAFC is coming off a 3-0 win over Alajuelense in Costa Rica on Thursday night. Denis Bouanga scored all 3 goals for the winners. For me it comes down to can the Revs maintain possession and punish LAFC when openings occur, or will LAFC's potent attack be too much for New England's defense who is yet to concede a goal this season. With LAFC playing Thursday night I would expect some squad rotation for Sunday nights game. Will Bruce Arena keep the same starting 11 that was victorious against Houston or will he shake things up to keep LAFC off balance. For an early season MLS game it's can't miss TV....New England (Boston) vs LA always has a ring to it and I for one will be chomping at the bit to see this one.
