This Saturday night the New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo face off in the 32nd meeting between the 2 clubs in frigid Foxboro. The Revs lead the all time series with 14 wins, 9 draws and 8 losses. The most notable game took place summer of 2008 when New England defeated the Dynamo in the final of the Super Liga at Gillette Stadium. This game also brings together Bruce Arena and Ben Olsen. Olsen in his first year as Dynamo coach was a former player under Arena at DC United. In Matchday 1 New England was victorious vs Charlotte with a dramatic 1-0 win, and an 89th minute goal from defender Henry Kessler. Houston who travelled to TQL stadium in Cincinnati were defeated 2-1 by FC Cincy. Houston's goal scorer was Tate Schmitt who created many chances attacking from the left side of defense. Legendary Mexican international Hector Herrera provided the assist on Schmitt's goal. Herrera who is partnered by Artur are 2 veterans who look to provide cover for the back 4 while also transitioning the Dynamo attack. Sebastian Ferreira scored 13 goals in MLS last year is certainly a threat up front for Houston. New England is looking to get their potent attack going led by former MLS MVP Carles Gil. Dylan Borrero looked very dangerous at times attacking but lacked cutting edge in the final third. Revs newest Designated Player Giacomo Vrioni is also looking to open his 2023 account. New England looked strong in the back vs Charlotte. CB's Henry Kessler, Dave Romney and Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic provide a strong foundation to build on. Both teams have interesting injury reports with New England having several players out. Houston only has Brad Smith listed as out but have many players listed as questionable. It's surely going to be a war of attrition with weather temps in the high 20's with winds around 10-20 MPH, and precipitation a possibility as well. Can the Revs build on their opening game win or does Houston get over the line and pick up their first win of 2023......
