Often maligned Striker Giacomo Vrioni equalized in the 81st minute to send the New England Revolution through to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup. The Revs advance with a 5-1 aggregate after 2 legs vs Alajuelense. Esmir Bajraktarevic provided the helper sending Vrioni in on goal. After a chop to the left the Italian/Albanian Striker unleashed a left footed shot which was too much for the Alajuelense keeper.
New England advances to face Club America in the next round of the competition. Leg 1 of the quarterfinals will begin the first week of April. New England was solid most of the night defending the Costa Rican side. A 4th minute goal from Alajuelense perhaps planted a seed of doubt in the mind of the Revs players. However, the team quickly regrouped and was stout at the back the rest of the game.
New England takes the field on Sunday vs FC Cincinnati. New England is still looking for there first point in the MLS season.
