Revs eliminated in round of 16

The kids came in and showed valiantly but it wasn't enough as the New England Revolution were eliminated by Queretaro 4-3 in penalties. Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil were left out of the team with minor injuries. The first half was rather boring with Revs having the best chance a header off the bar from Dejuan Jones. Queretaro got on the scoreboard early in the 2nd half with a header goal as Andrew Farrell and Djordje Petrovic seemed to be confused and both out of position. New England failed to put any shots on goal the first 55+ minutes of the game. Stand in coach Richie Williams substituted Esmir Bajraktarevic, Damian Rivera and Nacho Gil into the game. Immediate dividends followed with Rivera causing problems for Queretaro on the left side. The goal came when Matt Polster played Esmir who swiveled and ripped a shot by the Queretaro keeper. This was enough to send the game to pens. This is where the Revs faltered while Queretaro thrived. Nacho Gil and Ian Harkes both had their penalties saved while Queretaro were clinical with their chances. New England plays again at Nashville SC August 20th, when MLS play resumes.
