Revs dominate Montreal

New England Revolution defeated CF Montreal 4-0 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. It didn't take long for New England to get on the score sheet when in the 21st minute Dylan Borrero created a moment of brilliance. Off of a corner kick Carles Gil played Gustavo Bou who touched the ball on to Borrero. Borrero took a couple touches and took a shot which started outside of the post left side of the Montreal keeper. The ball bent back in nearly upper 90 opening up the scoring. New England doubled the lead just before half when Latif Blessing played a ball to Bobby Wood whom took a shot and the ball struck a Montreal player on the hand. After a brief 😏 VAR check the handball was confirmed. Carles Gil confidently stepped up to the penalty spot and converted with a calm shot right down the middle taking the lead to 2-0 at the break. More of the same continued in the 2nd half. New England tripled the lead when Bobby Wood took down a long ball from Dave Romney and made a nice run shooting and wrong footing the keeper giving the Revs a commanding 3-0 lead. Then came the moment many Revs fans have been waiting for. Giacomo Vrioni brilliantly took down a goal kick from Djordje Petrovic made a forward run to the top of the box. Vrioni's final touch before the strike took the ball a bit behind him however, Vrioni was able to wrap his left foot around the ball beating the MTL keeper to his right post. It was Vrioni's first goal from open play since joining New England last July. Although the celebration was a bit cringe and self loathing, it was nice to see Vrioni create such a nice goal. The comprehensive 4-0 win sees the Revs go to 16 points and 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a massive showdown next week in Columbus. Again, Bruce Arena deserves much credit for team setup, Revs were dominant all game outshooting Montreal with 9 shots to 3 on target. New England also had the lions share of possession and are looking like a formidable foe in the East.
