Revs and NYCFC split the points Saturday night

toddtinkham

New England and NYCFC rekindled their rivalry Saturday night in Foxboro playing to a 1-1 tie. Carles Gil scored for New England in the 70th minute on a low strike beating NYC keeper to the near post bottom corner. It was Gil's first goal of 2023. The game also saw Christian Makoun make his 2023 debut start returning back from international duty. Makoun whom replaced Matt Polster out with an illness played as the #6 in a diamond midfield with Jack Panayotou, Noel Buck and Carles Gil at the 10. The Revs appeared to open the scoring early in the second half when Dylan Borrero took a shot which was deflected near post and in, however Gustavo Bou was in an offside position in the line of site of the goalkeeper and the goal was chalked off. The lead was short lived because in the 80th minute New York equalized with Talles Magno who beat the zonal marking of Noel Buck and headed home the tying goal on an NYC corner kick. The rest of the game saw both teams see the game through and the game ended uneventfully. Post game Bruce Arena was beside himself with the decision given to disallow Dylan Borrero's goal. Coach Arena was also displeased with Revs media asking him about Giacomo Vrioni's lack of playing time. Arena told a young reporter to take that thought out of his head. We will see if Revs media continue to badger Arena with the lack of playing time the Albanian DP is receiving. New England fell to 3rd place in the Eastern Conference on 13 points. The Revs host Montreal next Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, kickoff is at 7:30. For more exclusive content stay tuned to Footy New England.
