Saturday night in Harrison, New Jersey provided plenty of excitement as the New York Red Bulls hosted New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena. An 85th minute goal from Wilkeman Carmona ended up being the game winner. Carmona's goal came from a Djordje Petrovic distribution mishap. Petrovic rolled out a ball to Matt Polster in the center of the park and was immediately dispossessed. The ball eventually found Carmona who took a shot from the top of the box. Ian Harkes closed down the ball but unfortunately a viscous deflection off of Harkes carried the ball into the top corner past Petrovic. The Carmona goal came 10 minutes after a Brandon Bye equalizer off of a Gustavo Bou corner kick in the 75th minute. New England's goal occured shortly after Latif Blessing was sent off with a straight red card after he mistimed a challenge and caught a Red Bull in the groin area. Frankie Amaya opened the scoring early in the second half after a cross from Dante Vanzeir. Amaya was able to head the ball in to set the Red Bull crowd in a frenzy. The most eventful moment in the game came in the 3rd minute of stoppage time. After another corner kick the ball found it's way to New England defender Andrew Farrell. Farrell's first time shot fizzed along the ground past Coronel the Red Bulls keeper appearing to tie the game and sending the Revs travelling supporters into a state of euphoria. Unfortunately for New England a VAR check showed Giacomo Vrioni in an offside position and in the sight of the Red Bull keeper erasing Farrell's wonder strike. Many fans including Red Bull fans thought the call was missed by VAR and Revs were hard done by. Red Bulls outpossessed, outshot and completed more passes at a higher completion percentage than New England. Red Bulls patented high press bothered New England and resulted in the Revs not being able to complete more than 3-4 passes at a time once the ball progressed into the midfield. Coach Bruce Arena seemed displeased all game in regards to the quality of his team as he was often seen shaking his head back and forth. Arena was also displeased with several referee decisions and was conversing with the 4th official all night long. New England has a short turnaround as they host Atlanta on Wednesday night. Red Bulls host MLS supporters shield leaders FC Cincy as both teams head towards the all star break.
