John Tolkin's free kick in the 88th minute saw the New York Red Bulls defeat DC United 1-0 Saturday night at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Both teams had been without games for roughly 2 weeks during the conclusion of Leagues Cup. The rust from both teams was evident, DC looked poor all game and Red Bulls lacked cutting edge in the final third.

Tolkin fresh off a busy summer with USMNT and being named MLS All Star provided the moment of brilliance for Red Bulls. Tolkin lined up his free kick near the right corner of the 18 yard box and bent the ball around the DC wall beating Tyler Miller near post.

It was a big win for Red Bulls who are looking to make a playoff push with 11 games remaining. They currently sit in 11th place with top 9 getting into playoffs. For DC they fall to 10th place in the Eastern Conference, they will need to get Christian Benteke firing again if they want to get back in the top 9.

Red Bulls next game is vs Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. This will mark Messi's first MLS League game and will be an extravagant night at Red Bull Arena. 50 years of hip hop will be celebrated with pregame concerts on the Arena concourse and a post game concert featuring Run DMC. It will surely be a night to remember.
