CD Faialense look to continue their improbable US Open Cup run Thursday night vs Portland Hearts of Pine. It is the Hearts of Pine inaugural match. The match will take place in Lewiston, Maine, Thursday night. There have been 2000+ tickets sold in the lead up to the match.

CD Faialense boasts several former D1 and D2 players with the quality to pull off the shock upset. I spoke with CD Faialense Forward Francis Mulkern on Sunday about his thoughts leading up to the match. Mulkern mentioned that CD Faialense had added more quality to the squad recently. With 3 convincing wins during qualifiers the Massachusetts based club knows that they will have to be flawless Thursday night. Mulkern added that the team is unable to practice due to player commitments to "real life" responsibilities and it's quite remarkable that the team has so much chemistry when they take the pitch.

For Lewiston, Maine native Khalid Hersi this game is a homecoming of sorts. The Somalian midfielder will have hundreds in attendance watching him don the Hearts of Pine kit for the first time in club history. No doubt that the occasion will be heartfelt considering all of the heartache that the Central Maine community endured not so long ago.

It will be quite the occasion Thursday night in Lewiston. Below you can find the link to the match.
