Brother Gilbert Stadium, at Malden Catholic High was the venue for the USL 2 opener between Boston City FC vs Vermont Green FC.
A crowd of around 150 people saw Vermont carry the play and take a 3-0 win back to Burlington, Vermont.
A brace from Jacob Labovitz propelled the Green while Zach Zengue also contributed a goal that has Vermont and it's rabid fan base ready to rock. Labovitz a former USL 1 player for Greenville Triumph looked very comfortable leading the line for Vermont.
Zengue who attends Georgetown, was recently drafted by the Columbus Crew in the MLS Super draft told us that he has elected to go back to Georgetown for the 2024 season. This choice has enabled him to play for Vermont this spring with Columbus retaining his rights after the 2024 college season.
Labovitz mentioned that he is enjoying his time in Vermont with his partner who is currently coaching Field Hockey locally in the Green Mountain State. Labovitz is looking to start his own soccer business in the Burlington area.
For Boston City, Manager Frank Cypriano talked about the quality of Vermont and mentioned that 2 crucial mistakes in the back that led to two goals for Vermont were ultimately the difference in the game. Boston City who were beaten handily last year by Vermont stood stout for the first 30 minutes and created a beautiful counter attack goal of their own that was flagged offside. Chances were scarce the rest of the match and Boston City was unable to break through on the evening.
UNH Goalkeeper Cameron Hall was solid in between the sticks saving several quality Vermont Green opportunities. Hall exuded confidence and communication for the full 90 minutes will certainlyhelp keep things solid for City in the back. Midfield maestro Felipe Cypriano was unable to leave his stamp on the game for City, but looks poised to help BCFC have a better 2024 campaign.
