Is it time to move on from Carles

What Carles Gil has done in a New England Revolution uniform is nothing short of remarkable. The diminutive, magical #10 has been doing if for years in Foxboro and will go down as one of the best to wear the jersey.

We will never forget the 2021 MVP season, where the Revs took home Supporters Shield. We will never forget all of the never seen before (in these parts) majesterial turns, flicks and tricks. We will never forget the curling wonder strikes. We will never forget the awesome penalty kick conversion rate.

Things sadly have changed. Ever since the snow game vs RSL in 2022 he has not been the same player or leader that this organization has needed the past 2 seasons. The constant complaining to officials, the berating of teammates, and lack of overall leadership and accountability has shown me the time is now. Add to that his goal and assist contributions have dropped considerably.

What does this mean? It means, I think it is in the Revs best interest to move on from Carles and open up another DP slot. New England is currently sitting on one open DP slot and opening another, and getting those signings right could turn this team into an Eastern Conference contender.

The New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy flipped their fortunes in no time, as both teams were in MLS Cup in 2024, with the Galaxy prevailing. The mechanisms are their to be used, but New England has to be ruthless and make that move.

The Boston Celtics did it in 2013, trading Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett when they saw their windows as top players closing. That led them to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as the C's drafted correctly.

I know this won't be popular opinion, I am not hear for that. This is what I see and I want an MLS Cup, (any trophy would be great). I'ma let y'all marinate on this for a bit. This isn't the first time I have asked for this, but I think it is something that needs a long hard stare at.

I hope Carles goes on to dominate MLS again like he did in 2019, '20, '21, even '22 and '23 he was good.......I just don't see it.
