Scoring goals for fun is what Western Mass Pioneers forward Alec Hughes does. The UMass Amherst grad student lit up the nets for the Minutemen and hasn't missed a beat for the Pioneers in '24.

Hughes leads all of USL 2 with 15 goals this season through 12 games. Hughes and the Pioneers are in 2nd place in the Northeast Division of USL 2 trailing only Seacoast United.
Hughes attributes his selfless teammates and chemistry that has been built during the USL season and hopes to build on that success. With 2 games left in the regular season the Pioneers have their sights set on the USL 2 playoffs which will begin shortly after the regular season finale on July 14th vs Vermont Green FC.

The lanky forward was named 3rd team All American this past season for UMass and ranks top 5 all time in goals scored for the program. When I asked Hughes about his professional aspirations he said he is willing to play domestically or abroad. With several pro teams in New England Hughes is most definitely a guy that can come in and have a positive impact on the attack immediately.
