Hearts of Pine find the magic of the cup

It wasn't looking very promising up in Lewiston, Maine after Jordan Scarlett scored for Hartford in the 107th minute of extra time, but sometimes the magic of the cup cannot be stopped.....

Azaad Liadi was sent off in the 96th minute for Portland after a 2nd yellow card and Hartford immediately put the pressure on creating chance after chance. After Scarlett's breakthrough the situation seemed bleak for Maine, that's when something out of a David Blaine performance ensued.....

An aerial through ball to Jake Keegan fooled the Athletic defense and MOTM performer up until this point Antony Siaha. Siaha came out to the edge of his box to meet the ball, but Keegan got a leg in first and side clipped the ball over the top of the outstretched arms of Siaha. The ball one bounced into the top corner of the Hartord net before the defenders could attempt a clearance.

Portland went 4/4 in PK's, while Hartford missed 2 out of their 4.......the last being Michee Ngalina sending his shot off the cross bar and into the fans behind the net.

Portland now waits to see who they will play in the 3rd round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The 3rd round draw takes place tomorrow at 1pm. What a moment for Maine and the Portland Hearts of Pine.
