Carles Gil delivered a trade mark free kick goal to carry the New England Revolution to their first victory of 2025. Gil's free kick goal came in the 28th minute.

A stunning left footed curler into the top corner sent the sparse crowd into a frenzy, while appearing to boost the floundering Revs confidence. However, Eric Choupo-Mouting's equalizer for the Red Bulls just before half time seemed to take a bit of wind out of the host teams sails heading into the break.
Neither team was sharp in the 2nd half and it appeared that a draw was imminent. Surprisingly, a 90 +7 minute penalty was awarded to New England when Ignatius Ganago was taken down in the box giving the home team one last chance. Carles Gil calmly stepped up and buried his pen, securing all 3 points for the boys in Blue.

It wasn't a flawless performance, but there were more signs of offensive spark as New England created more chances and registered a season high 6 shots on target.
The big question is.....can the Revs kick on and continue this momentum, or is this just a one off for Caleb Porter's club and his seat warms up even more.
Defender Wyatt Omsberg appeared to pull a hammy early in the contest, which leaves his availability in question for the week's ahead. Defenders Andrew Farrell and Bryan Ceballos were unavailable for the match which means New England's defensive depth is being tested early on.
The club travels to Cincinnati next weekend to play FC Cincy, this will provide an early season test for the 1-1-3 Revs and another opportunity for improvement.
