Jozy.........

Jozy Altidore joined the New England Revolution for the 2022 season. New England acquired Altidore when Toronto FC and Jozy mutually agreed to part ways. Part of the deal in Jozy coming to New England was that New England would pay a portion of Altidore's $4+ million dollar a year contract. The word is the Revs are paying north of $1 million but south of $2 million for Altidore's "services". In the MLS salary structure that is a big chunk of change. Altidore has been less than stellar and for me less than serviceable. He scored 1 goal in 17 MLS appearances for the Revs last year and had 0 assists. This led to Altidore being loaned out to Puebla of Liga MX. Altidore netted twice for Puebla, but returned after a so so stunt in Mexico which included a night club incident which the approved New England Revolution media never mentioned. Altidore has returned for 2023 and in 4 appearances has 0 goal contributions in a limited 77 minutes of total action. A recent article has stated that Altidore is embracing his new role on the Revolution. My question is...What role is that? A few weeks ago Jozy had another altercation where he was appeared to be headed into the stands at Gillette Stadium to confront a fan whom was criticizing Jozy's efforts while warming up and doing post game "sprints". In most cases a heavy price tag player contributing minimally to a pro sports team would be heavily scrutinized. However, it seems their is no pressure on Jozy to play better and provide goal contributions which he was brought in to do. For me Justin Rennicks whom has been seldomly used in 2023 provides much more than Altidore in regards to work rate, effort and attitude should be ahead of Jozy on the depth chart. If not Rennicks than Jordan Adebayo-Smith on Revs 2 also provides more at this moment that Altidore. Perhaps Jozy can gain some confidence, and fitness and be a contributor going forward but I find it hard to imagine. Altidore was one of the best strikers ever from the USA, point, blank, period. As of right now he seems more of a headache than anything else.
