Club America dominate Revs on and off the pitch

The Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup came to New England and Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on Tuesday night. I included the score and goal scorers in the image because I will not be talking about that in this post.

From minute 1 to minute 90 the New England Revolution were completely dominated on the field and in the stands. An announced crowd 11,978 mainly Club America fans saw the major disparity in level of talent and ruthlessness on the pitch.

Club America ended up winning the game 4-0, putting in a complete and proper dismantling of the Revs. New England came out with a back 5 of Jones, Romney, Kessler, Mensah and Spaulding. Club America was able to possess and find holes in the Revs easily getting from point A to point B and scoring at will. This was a formation that New England had been working on the last week plus leading up to the game. Offensively New England couldn't string more than 3 passes together as they looked disjointed and confused to where the openings would be.

We know Club America fans travel. With banners being flown and waved from different Club America groups from all over the country Gillette Stadium became a mini Azteca. Any time Revs supporters began to sing they were drowned out by boos and whistles. Any time Club America was able to pass in and around the Revs the Ole chant came out. The cherry on sundae came when blue and yellow smoke flares were dispatched late in the match turning the rainy Foxboro night into a yellow and blue mist.

We know flares are not allowed in Gillette Stadium, but Club America fans found a way to get them in. Without a tifo or banner in the stands in support of the Revs it was a complete no show across the board for the teetering New England Revolution organization. Players that many Revs fans view as special talents looked very ordinary all game.

The gap is massive and there are no signs or urgency from the front office. As long as this remains the case do not expect the Revs to challenge for any type of silverware. Where will the buzz come from? This team and org need something big. Stadium renderings were revealed earlier in the day, but this project will take a half to a full decade at best to get over the line.

Supporters should be very concerned and should be demanding some sort of statement or meeting in regards to direction of the club. Major upgrades are needed and I don't see that happening any time soon.
