The New England Revolution defeated Atlas 2-2 (8-7) in penalty kicks. Atlas jumped out on New England scoring 2 goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. New England and stand in coach Richie Williams found there game about 20 minutes in and were the better team going forward. A Gustavo Bou roof shot brought the Revs to within a goal at th half. In the second half Atlas had many chances but Earl Edwards Jr. showed out in a rare start for him. In the final 20 minutes the Revs pushed and pushed flr a goal and were rewarded when Ema Boateng out in a cross and Giacomo Vrioni drew a penalty after he was shoved down from behind. Gustavo Bou stepped up and was initially stopped after a poor pen, but the ball came right back to Bou who didn't make a mistake 2nd time around. The game eventually went to penalties after 90 minutes. The shootout became a thriller with Atlas and Revs converting from the spot one after another. Atlas missed their 8th PK and Andrew Farrell stepped up and buried his opportunity to send Revs through to the Round of 16 to face Queretaro. The game will be Monday night at Gillette. Brandon Bye and Carles Gil went off injured for New England. Bye's injury appears to be much worse as he has sustained a possible knee injury. Gil's injury is a muscle injury after he was kicked making a run to net in the 2nd half. Btw will be out for Monday. Carles is questionable but has a good chance of seeing playing time. Kickoff is 7pm Monday night.
