Benteke nets hat trick in DC loss

toddtinkham

Christian Benteke's first career MLS hat trick was not enough as DC United lost to NY Red Bulls 5-3 Saturday night at Audi Field in Washington, DC. All of Benteke's goals came in the first half. The first was a header from a cross which came off the cross bar and into the net. The next was a scrappy toe poke in which Red Bulls keeper was unable to secure the ball and was punished for his poor handling. The 3rd and final goal came from the spot. Benteke was taken down in the box and made his penalty count capping the first half hat trick.

For Benteke, he now sits on 13 goals, which is 2 behind Lucho Acosta in MLS Golden Boot race. Benteke has 4 games left to try and win the Golden Boot race. For DC these next 4 games are critical as they cling on to the 9th and final playoff spot.
