Last night was probably the most Revsy night ever for the organization. 15 minutes prior to kickoff Tom Bogert put out an article in regards to Bruce Arena likely being done as Sporting Director and Coach of the New England Revolution. In that Article he stated that some of the complaints about Arena were from Interim manager Richie Williams. This started the pot stirring.
Meanwhile on the field the Revs were playing at Minnesota United who sits 7th in the west and has been playing well as of late. Although New England was comprehensively outplayed they led 1-0 courtesy of the Gil brothers link up with Nacho feeding Carles and Carles punching the ball in past Minnesota keeper Dayne St. Clair. Late in the game New England was absorbing all of the pressure when finally the dam broke and Minnesota equalized off of a St. Clair assist to Fragapane and the game finished 1-1 in a game where Minnesota thoroughly dominated statistically.
Immediately after the game the Revs issued Bruce Arena's resignation letter. This comes after 40 or so days of silence from the organization and MLS. I am left to wonder about the timing of all of this. Arena met with MLS commissioner Don Garber on Tuesday and the Krafts on Thursday. Why not a resignation on Friday? I believe the resignation was pushed to 10:30 something on Saturday night to bury the story so it will not conflict with the festivities in regards to the Patriots and Tom Brady today.
Back to the on field product, since return to play New England has only been able to muster 5 out of a possible 12 points. With back to back late game collapses one is led to believe that Richie Williams is not up to the task. Williams has used questionable subs at crucial moments in the game. Why was Makoun and TMac brought in vs Austin when neither have played in months and the team clinging to a 1 goal lead? Last night was similar. MacNamara again was brought in and was extremely slow to close down Fragapane on the game tying effort.
Whatever the reason for the subs and timing of press releases one thing is for sure. The New England Revolution organization from Bob and Jonathan Kraft to Brian Bilello owe the fans. They owe the fans transparency and need to be held accountable. They need to hold a press conference. The fans of this team deserve better. I am hoping Supporters in and around the organization stand up and organize a protest in regards to this teams mishandlings of so many situations. From tone deaf social media posts, to locked doors for players coming in to the team. To millions of wasted dollars on over the hill players. Where is the transfer money going? What is the objective of this organization? We deserve answers.
