Revs dominate Independiente in Leg 2

toddtinkham

A cold cavernous Gillette Stadium didn't bother the New England in their 3-0 victory over Independiente in Leg 2 of the Round of 32 in Concacaf Champions Cup play. Goals from Nacho Gil, Tomas Chancalay and Mark Anthony Kaye propelled the Revs to victory.

Caleb Porter came out to a round of applause in his first appearance as manager and showed his appreciation by greeting the Supporters Section with several positive gestures. Nacho Gil opened the scoring for New England assisted by his brother Carles. A beautifully constructed goal including Giacomo Vrioni with intricate passing around the top of the box had Revs fans in awe.

Tomas Chancalay doubled New England's lead in the 2nd half with an assist credited to Esmir Bajraktarevic, who came on for Carles Gil in the 2nd half who had some Achilles discomfort. Mark Anthony Kaye capped the night with a helper from Vrioni in the 90+3 minute giving the Boys in Blue the 3-0 win.

The tie ended 4-0 on aggregate. New England moves on to the round of 16 where they will play Alajuelense. Vrioni will be unavailable for Leg 1 next Wednesday in Foxboro due to yellow card accumulation. Revs MLS home opener is this weekend when they take on Toronto.
